Innovation never stops — and neither does Motsai.
Yes. We design highly compact electronic architectures that integrate sensing, processing, and connectivity into minimal space. Generally, most wearable devices are constrained by the battery, not the semiconductor or sensors alone. This is why Motsai has invested more than a decade studying mechanisms to optimize the energy efficiency of its solutions. It is a careful mix of firmware, hardware design, and techniques to save every microwatt of energy during computation and radio transmission. This allows us to create systems that process sensor data, extract valuable information, and transmit it wirelessly over long distances, all while running for years on a coin cell, or indefinitely with energy harvesting.
Yes. We integrate wireless technologies such as Bluetooth (BLE) and, when the energy budget allows, Wi-Fi. We adapt communication protocols to enable real-time data transmission, remote monitoring, and connected ecosystems that live inside a mobile or web application. For wearable devices we are also aware of what can and cannot be done as far as electromagnetic safety near a person.
Yes. We have been doing this for almost a decade. Before AI became a buzzword through the traction of chatbots, a related discipline called machine learning was already widely used. It remains one of the main mechanisms for running small, efficient neural networks that perform classification, motion detection, and sensor stream fitting in a compact, low-power manner. Today we support everything from tiny microcontrollers with dedicated NPU accelerators to octa-core Qualcomm architectures with cell-phone-level AI processing, on hardware that stays compact and power efficient. It is now possible to support edge LLMs that can be interacted with in real time.
Our engineers carefully select components, optimize firmware, and design efficient power management strategies to extend battery life. We evaluate processing requirements, usage patterns, and methods to trigger different levels of processing depending on need. Through efficient algorithms, careful analysis, and precise power measurement equipment, we often achieve a 10 to 100 fold reduction in power consumption compared to our customers’ early prototypes.
Yes, that is our bread and butter. All our projects tend to include sensors, but some of our biggest customer successes come from combining the right sensors and features to meet stringent space and performance requirements. We are agnostic to brand or technology, working with everything from novel quantum effects and nanomaterials to more conventional microelectromechanical systems. Many on our team can identify the right technology approach to solve the sensor problem.
