The Future of Cybersecurity
Motsai is contributing to a major collaborative research project alongside Soralink, Concordia University, the University of Ottawa and DRDC. This project is supported by NSERC through 2029.
The objective is to strengthen the security of IoT and IoMT systems against AI-assisted cyberattacks. By combining deep learning, attack simulation and autonomous defense mechanisms, this project paves the way for a true electronic immune system: cybersecurity that is intelligent, preventive and resilient.

Depending on your project, we can develop the electronic components of a smart home sensor project or focus on specific components, such as a light or presence sensor, control units, or communication modules. We ensure seamless integration within the overall system. We may, for example, retrofit an older HVAC interface to give it a more modern touch panel feel, or help an established brand shave significant cost from an existing product by leveraging new, less expensive sensing methods highly suited to mass production.
Yes. This is where we spend most of our time: turning a first-of-kind idea, such as a new type of leak detector or a smarter heat exchanger controller, into a working, producible device. We handle feasibility, electronic architecture, prototyping, and validation, and we structure the path toward production. Motsai does not run electronic manufacturing itself, but we organize and coordinate it with production partners so the transition from prototype to volume is planned from the start, not figured out after the fact. We also support our customers when they work on obtaining IP protection on their project. Furthermore, we are able to ensure UL or CSA compliance for those electrical products that need to be powered directly from a wall source.
Yes. We tend to work on complete solutions that can include the remote sensing device as well as the hub that routes data to the cloud. Our goal is a unified architecture where multiple devices (lighting, security, HVAC, sensors) communicate and operate together, eliminating fragmentation in favor of a single integrated system that can mesh with other products in the market.
This is a core part of our expertise. A device like a leak detector often needs to run for many years in a hard-to-reach location, so component selection, firmware, and power management strategy are treated as a single design problem from day one. Where it makes sense, we also look at simple supplementary power sources, such as a small light harvester to extend the battery life or eliminate the battery altogether.
Yes, though our focus remains on the device and its base connection. We bring the data to the cloud, but we are less involved in the client-facing side and cloud backends. We know several strong partners who can help with that. Customers who come to us for electronic and embedded development expertise are often already familiar with the cloud, but for smaller projects or early-stage ideas we can recommend a few plug-and-play platforms to get you started.
We integrate technologies such as Bluetooth Low Energy, Thread/Matter, Wi-Fi, and other IoT protocols well suited for home use, working with semiconductor partners who are world leaders in these fields. Security is built into the architecture from the start, through encrypted communication, secure root-of-trust firmware, and robust device authentication. The device’s own attack surface is typically limited, but router and web-exposed areas require close attention. We also protect the intellectual property in the device itself, from firmware security to a secure supply chain for critical keys, along with key management and over-the-air update mechanisms to keep the product secure over its full lifecycle.
